Bianca Cook Joins Volvo Ocean Race

The Kiwi contingent that is taking part in the Volvo Ocean Race is increasing and the latest Kiwi to enter the fray is Bianca Cook.


She has joined the Turn the Tide on Plastic team and will start her venture into the new offshore racing from October22. This is when the Volvo Ocean Race will be kicking off. With this addition, the Turn the Tide on Plastic team has 10 sailors on board. They are a very youthful team.

The 28-year-old Aucklander is very happy to take part in the Volvo Ocean Race and has impressed her team during the trials. This led to them signing her on board and she is also joined by Irish Olympian Annalise Murphy. The skipper of the Turn the Tide on Plastic team Caffari is very happy with these two new additions. She is hoping that the new additions will help the crew and also add more strength to the team. (more…)

Van Uden Wins 2017 North Sea Race

The skipper of Van Uden, Gerd-Jan Poortman, was over the moon after winning the 2017 North Sea Race.


The Dutch Ker 46 won the IRC and the ORC. Poortman has good experience in sailing as he has competed in the last four seasons of the Volvo Ocean Race. He had a very young Dutch team for support and this was the first time that they took part in an offshore race.

The Line Honors for the race was won by Piet Vroon Ker 53. But after the time correction, it was placed in the third position. Daniel Hardy, who skippered Ker 46, Lady Mariposa, Finished the line 30 seconds ahead of Van Uden. After the time correction, it was pushed to the second position and this gave Van Uden the title. Unbelievable Homecoming Welcome

Alex Thomson received a hero’s welcome when he returned to his homeland Gosport after creating a new British Vendee Globe sailing record. The Former Clipper Race skipper is the youngest skipper to claim the Clipper Race.

He brought his Hugo Boss back to the Portsmouth Harbor after a great race at the Vendee Globe nonstop around the world race. He was welcomed back home by hundreds of supporters last Saturday morning despite the weather being snowy.

Alex completed the Vendee Globe on January 20 after sailing for 74 days, 19 hours and 35 minutes. The winner of the Vendee Globe race was Armel Le Clèac’h. Alex finished in the 2nd sport and this is the best showing by any British man in the race. Alex was 16 hours and 31 seconds behind the winner, Armel. (more…)

Barrington Elected As OCI Vice President

Colm Barrington from Sailing was voted and he won the position of First Vice–President of Olympic Council of Ireland with clear majority. The voting takes place at the Hotel Conrad in Dublin.

For three decades the OCI was ruled by former president Pat Hicke. With the election of new first Vice—President, OCI has welcomed a new era and end of previous one. (more…)

Sailing Club By Krishna River

Sailing is yet to reach a professional level in India, but it is slowly picking up. For instance, there are local sailing clubs that are promoting the sport among local youths and schools. One such instance is a club by the Krishna River. Located in the state of Andhra Pradesh, it is an effort made by the tourism department of the state to promote the club as a venue for water sports.

Located in the city of Vijayawada, it is a great venue where sailing sport buffs can get a glimpse of some action here. The club is known as the Volga Sailing Club. This club has been floating different vessels by the river banks of Krishna and they cater to both professionals as well as recreational sport enthusiasts. (more…)
